Icelandair travel fundThe philosophy one chooses to follow is a sort of personal compass; it guides him or her through life with a strong yet impalpable force and allows for paths in all directions. I believe we are all guided by something, perhaps an idea, a feeling or even a person. But if we want to reach a higher self and gain a greater understanding of the universe we need to listen to the inner voice all of us have. While some call it a conscience others call it the light, higher self-awakening, or enlightenment. What is certain is that by doing what you love to do and listening to this voice, you can feel freedom, joy and many other emotions; then you can share your enlightenment easily with others in the universe.
While others measure success in different ways, for me, success comes in many forms and is most closely linked to my family. I feel successful when I am able to take care of others. Nurturing my parents and taking care of them; acting as a positive role model for my son and being there for my sisters and my boyfriend all represent my idea of success. Everyday I strive to be a woman that I would want as a friend. I know with this inner vision of success, an outer purpose will follow.
While we are all trying to realize different accomplishments, my life goal is to inspire people with my work and enrich their lives. By making the lives of others richer, I feel it deepens and enriches my own life and allows me once again to go on inspiring others. The cycle is continuous and never-ending like the Buddhist concept of samara. I am certain that if my work only inspired one person, I would have reached my goal.
The advice of a friend can often clarify a difficult topic for you. Many years ago, a close friend of mine said to me, “Hendrikka make sure you give “on the way in life” instead of doing it at the end and make sure you don’t take your ego with you”. We often have it in our minds that we will “pass things on” after we die, but the idea that life is a series exchanges between people, some offering advice others taking advice is much more of a holistic concept. This is why I am always ready to offer my help to others as well as readily accept it from others. These pearls of wisdom have always resonated well with my mind and my heart.
Hendrikka Waage was the first designer to design the Pink Ribbon rosette for the Icelandic Cancer Society in 2008. Waage is proud to have created a symbol for such an august society such as the Icelandic Cancer Society which is one of the five members of the Nordic Cancer Union (NCU). Since 1952, the ICS has been a member of the International Union Against Cancer (UICC) as well as has been an active member of the Association of European Cancer Leagues (ECL). The Icelandic Cancer Society is a nation-wide, voluntary organization established 56 years ago, with four main cornerstones directing its policy and activities. Each one of the four main points has its unique focus and efforts.
